Stephen Fields

Counselor Intern | Specialist in Child Play Therapy, Couples Connection, & Family Alignment

When a family unit is out of alignment, the friction is felt by everyone. You might be a parent watching your young child battle explosive meltdowns, intense anxiety, or behavioral shifts that leave you feeling entirely overwhelmed. Or perhaps you and your partner have hit a wall—trapped in a repetitive, exhausting cycle of disconnection where you feel more like distant roommates than an unshakeable team. When your closest relationships are a source of distress rather than a safe harbor, it impacts every single area of your life.

Relationships are our greatest biological need, but when they fracture, they cause our deepest pain. You don’t need a passive counselor to lecture you on family theory. You need a systemic strategist.

I specialize in treating the entire family ecosystem, focusing on early childhood development (ages 3–10) and high-conflict couples. Integrating Child-Centered Play Therapy with Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), I look at the hidden patterns of attachment, communication, and emotion that are keeping your home stuck in survival mode. Together, we will build a practical, evidence-based roadmap to restore harmony, safety, and deep resilience to your household.

The Power of Cohesive, Dual-Brain Family Care

Choosing to work with me means stepping into a high-value clinical partnership backed by a unique dual-brain advantage. As an advanced graduate resident at Augusta University completing my residency at Holly Counseling, my clinical work is directly informed by cutting-edge attachment research.

Furthermore, my cases are intensely reviewed and guided under the expert supervision of Lauren Petro, LPC, ACS, the CEO of Holly Counseling. When you sit with me, you are receiving the focused energy and passion of a dedicated resident, backed by the senior clinical authority of the practice's leadership—offering your family premier, wrap-around care.

  • For Your Child (Ages 3–10): Using developmentally precise play therapy to help your child process big emotions, regulate their nervous system, and shift out of survival-driven behaviors before they have the adult words to express it.

  • For Your Relationship: Utilizing the gold-standard EFT model to map out your repetitive arguments, de-escalate the tension, and safely rebuild emotional intimacy and secure trust.

Meet Stephen

While our clinical work focuses on systemic patterns and hard targets, it is delivered with deep warmth, radical validation, and an authentic, down-to-earth human presence. I believe healing thrives in a space that is collaborative, transparent, and balanced with a healthy sense of humor.

Originally from Atlanta, I have called the Augusta area home since 2018. I recently stepped into the beautiful, chaotic world of fatherhood with the birth of my first son, so I intimately understand the real-world exhaustion of modern parenting. When I am not in the clinic or studying, I am a passionate storyteller—enjoying science fiction and fantasy novels, running imaginative Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, and diving into tactical tabletop strategy games.

  • Clinical Focus: Child-Centered Play Therapy (Ages 3–10), Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), Intergenerational Family Alignment.

  • Credentials: Counselor Education (MEd) Student at Augusta University. Practicum and Internship Resident at Holly Counseling under the expert clinical supervision of Lauren Petro, LPC, ACS (with specialized play therapy consultation under Caila Lene, LPC).
